Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Senior Social Scientist, who is experienced working with a diverse team of analysts, and information operations (IO) planners, strategic communications and policy professionals to translate empirical research findings into operational assessments. The ability to work on a team in a collaborative environment is a requirement. 

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing analytic and assessment projects evaluating the information environment (IE) in the US FORCES KOREA (USFK) area of responsibility (AOR). The candidate will complete assessment reports in the form of briefs, PowerPoint presentations, and direct inputs into C2IE (Command and Control in the Information Environment). 

 

This position is located at Camp Humphreys’, South Korea. 

 

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Perform a broad range of data analysis assignments entailing unique problems, innovative use of techniques, advance approaches, and/or new technology. Applies a variety of analytic methodologies in order to visualize and present data to decision-makers and in support of command objectives.
  • Supports the efforts of analysts and planning teams by sourcing, providing, consolidating, or synthesizing data into displayable formats for ease of interpretation and dissemination.
  • Prepares and delivers written and oral presentations such as briefings, training sessions, consultations, and strategy sessions with command staff and senior leaders to secure cooperation, resolve controversial matters, and convey information relative to ongoing or proposed activities.
  • Conduct assessments of the information environment, applying a combination of opinion research data, intelligence, operational reporting, and social media insights.
  • Provide data visualization and explain quantitative analysis from Peraton’s research team / vendors. and quantitative analysis.
  • Contribute to design of opinion research and interpretation of findings. Examples of opinion research includes survey, flash polls, focus groups, and in-depth interviews.
  • Prepare status reports, assess project issues and risks, and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives.
  • Create, determine resourcing, and/or coordinate with stakeholders, the collection of social, cultural, economic, political, religious, and regional identified indicators through all available sources to assess approved series in the theater.
  • Review studies conducted by similar organizations and determine reliability, validity and other strength factors for potential use in theater.
  • Create/lead innovative social science research initiatives, educate staff on proposed responsibilities, collect results from the implemented tasks, and report to senior-decision makers.
  • Work independently or in collaboration with social scientists within and outside the theater.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience with a Masters OR 3 years of relevant experience with PhD
  • Master’s degree in political science, international relations, area studies, behavioral sciences, sociology, geography, anthropology, or other related social science field
  • Experience working with data analytic tool kits.
  • Demonstrated experience in the ability to engage senior leaders and staff, and conduct operational and informational briefings to a large audience.
  • Army/Joint Targeting, IPB, Intelligence cycle, and COG analysis
  • Be familiar with, certified in, or have applicable operational/field time experience in Military Information Support Operations (MISO) / (Psychological Operations (PSYOP))
  • Knowledge and experience in use of all Microsoft Office products
  • Current US Passport
  • Active DoD TS/SCI security clearance
  • Candidate must be willing to travel within USFK AOR and reside in the vicinity of Camp Humphreys’, South Korea

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in psychology, sociology, anthropology, behavioral sciences, social sciences and more than 9 years of applicable experience
  • Detailed knowledge and expertise in data analysis and social science highly desired.
  • Understanding concepts of AI-enabled analytics and cloud computing.
  • Joint intelligence or operational experience with U.S. Geographical Combatant Commands
  • Focus on the USFK AOR and associated problem sets.
  • Knowledge in JOPP, MDMP, or MCPP planning and targeting processes and expertise in developing and accessing tactical and operational level IO plans and orders.
  • Previous experience working at USFK, USINDOPACOM, USSOCKOR, or forward elements in that AOR.
  • Statistical package expertise in IBM SPSS/PASW, R, STATA or MS Excel statistics
  • Experience with campaign / operational assessments.
  • Comfortable using data analytic tools kits and have some familiarity with AI-enabled research methods (e.g., machine learning, natural language processing, etc.).
  • Experience working with opinion research vendors.

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
