Program Overview
Provide critical communications and tracking for multiple spacecraft from three complexes located globally, and operates year round 24 hours/7days to provide continuous contact with the spacecraft. The program fulfills NASA goals by supporting NASA deep space mission set, including NASA-funded missions and collaborative international missions.
About The Role

Peraton is seeking a Database Engineer to be part of a cutting edge, mission focused team supporting the Deep Space Network (DSN) in Monrovia, CA with NASA/JPL. You will be responsible for supporting Information Security, processes, procedures and technologies across the DSN including JPL, Monrovia, and Goldstone locations.

 

The Deep Space Network is NASA’s international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never-before-seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it.

 

The successful candidate will build, analyze, evaluate and install database management systems, metadata and repository creation and configuration management. Uses data mapping, data mining and data transformational analysis tools to maintain databases. Determines data storage and optimum storage requirements. Prepares system requirements, source analysis and process analyses throughout the database implementation. Writes and tunes SQL queries for performance and scalability. Implements comprehensive backup and database replication solutions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Database Engineering support focused on cyber security, including database synchronization, activation or partial activation and restoration.
  • Database backup/restore activities including active exercising of contingency plans. Ransomware/crypto attack detection/recovery.
  • Performance monitoring, dashboard, tuning and re-engineering, storage management, projected usage and trending.
  • Management of read-only archives, Data at Rest (DAR) encryption, cloud migration, and SQA support.
  • Perform Database Administration duties for several critical Deep Space Network (DSN) subsystems. Duties include attending meetings with JPL staff, developers and managers during software reviews at JPL.
  • Provides critical DSN subsystem support with database administration, database maintenance, and database operations for DSN subsystems such as the Service Preparation Subsystem (SPS), Service Scheduling Software (SSS), NMC Automatic Link Builder (ALB) and Asset Manager (AM), Service Quality Assessment (SQA) subsystem, and the Emergency Control Center (ECC) at GDSCC and across the network.
  • Perform critical support of JPL’s COOP team at the ECC.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD
  • An additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Experience installing application software in an operational environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Strong analytical, organizational and decision-making skills with government and corporate security policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to obtain a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC). In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship. 
  • Must possess and retain a valid Driver’s License (Real ID).

Details

Target Salary Range: $80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
