Program Overview
RDG (Risk Decision Group) provides nationwide background investigations compliant with national government standards to include support of continuous vetting for over 110 government agencies.
About The Role
Peraton is hiring a Database Engineer to support critical missions within its Risk Decision Group.
This is a 100% Remote position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in building and maintaining cloud-native database management systems on platforms such as AWS and Azure, including data modeling and schema design.
- Support the design and optimization of relational and NoSQL database architectures, ensuring scalable and reliable data flows.
- Utilize data mapping, mining, and transformation tools such as AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, and Informatica to develop and refine databases.
- Help determine optimal cloud-based data storage and compute solutions (e.g., Amazon S3, Redshift, Azure Data Lake, Cosmos DB) for scalable, cost-effective pipelines.
- Collaborate on the design and implementation of automated ETL/ELT pipelines using modern data orchestration tools.
- Gain experience evaluating cloud-based software, hardware, and network configurations that support database solutions and data security.
- Write and optimize SQL queries across cloud platforms (e.g., Amazon RDS, Azure SQL) under guidance to ensure query performance and system scalability.
- Support the implementation of data governance policies, including data lineage tracking, access control, and encryption mechanisms.
- Apply best practices for data extraction, transformation, and loading from structured and unstructured sources for advanced analytics.
- Help develop cloud-based data validation methods and analysis tools that serve dynamic business needs.
- Optimize data delivery architecture across hybrid or multi-cloud systems for long-term scalability and system efficiency.
- Actively engage with team members and stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve data-related technical challenges across cloud platforms.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a T5/SSBI federally adjudicated clearance
- 5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD
- Foundational knowledge of cloud computing concepts and data services, including but not limited to AWS and Azure
- Familiarity with relational (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) in both on-prem and cloud contexts
- Proficiency in SQL, with exposure to Microsoft SQL Server and cloud database interfaces (e.g., Amazon RDS, Azure SQL Database)
- Experience using cloud-native tools and workflows for data modeling, ETL, and analytics
- Understanding of data architecture principles including normalization, schema design, and performance tuning
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and ability to work in Agile environments with tools such as Team Foundation Server (TFS)
- Experience with Visual Studio Team Services (TFS) or Git integrations within Visual Studio to manage version control and code collaboration for SQL projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Effective communicator capable of tailoring presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated experience designing and deploying end-to-end cloud data solutions
- Strong understanding of data security, privacy, and compliance regulations as they apply to cloud deployments
- Prior work with big data ecosystems (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Databricks) is a plus
- Ability to learn and adapt quickly to evolving data and cloud technologies in a high-paced mission-driven environment

Details
Target Salary Range: $66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
