Overview:
The Expert Systems Engineer will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams supporting the National System for Geospatial-Intelligence (NSG), Allied System for Geospatial-Intelligence (ASG), and Federal Agencies. This role drives the full systems engineering lifecycle—requirements analysis, solution design, integration, testing, and sustainment—to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of GEOINT capabilities.
Leadership & Mentorship:
Guide and mentor Mid-, Junior-, and Senior-level Systems Engineers across all phases of systems engineering, including requirements development, solution design, scheduling, reliability, resiliency, services development, testing, and maintainability.
Systems Integration:
Lead the integration of commercial imagery and imagery-derived products across NSG, ASG, and partner Federal Agencies.
Requirements & Architecture Management:
Oversee the planning, analysis, and traceability of user and architecture requirements. Identify and implement improvements to existing systems, workflows, and cloud service capabilities.
Technical Advisory:
Provide expert recommendations to Government stakeholders on solution design changes, technology adoption, and systems modernization strategies.
Mission Translation:
Capture and translate mission and customer needs into actionable system and capability requirements, ensuring alignment with program and enterprise goals.
Analysis & Assessments:
Lead Analyses of Alternatives (AoAs), Courses of Action (CoAs), trade studies, and engineering assessments to support data-driven decision-making.
Strategic Planning & Risk Management:
Direct strategic technical planning, project management, performance engineering, risk mitigation, and interface design activities.
Cross-Agency Integration:
Operate at the enterprise level—integrating multiple Major Systems Acquisitions across organizational, agency, departmental, and national boundaries.
Government Support:
Advise on vision, strategy, and capability development to advance the mission and technical goals of the GEOINT community.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Systems Engineering or a related STEM discipline (e.g., Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering Management, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Management Information Systems).
Equivalent experience may substitute for education:
4 additional years with no degree, or
2 additional years with a non-STEM degree.
Experience:
18+ years of experience in government or industry in one or more of the following areas:
DoD/IC Acquisition Processes
Requirements and PPBES Processes
Systems engineering for large, complex Systems of Systems (SoS) or Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA) in cloud, on-premise, or hybrid environments.
18+ years of experience across the systems engineering lifecycle, with a strong understanding of all phases from concept to deployment and sustainment.
Proven expertise in photogrammetry, remote sensing, image science, information science, GIS, geomatics, or related technical domains.
Extensive hands-on experience in Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) operations or engineering.
In-depth knowledge of NSG/ASG and NRO enterprises.
Previous experience supporting NGA or other NSG/ASG programs or projects.
Prior involvement in Intelligence Community (IC) or Department of Defense (DoD) programs.
Active TS/SCI clearance or ability to obtain SCI eligibility and pass a polygraph.
Master’s degree or higher in Systems Engineering or related STEM field.
Certifications:
INCOSE Expert Systems Engineering Professional (ESEP)
Software Development Framework certification
Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
Proficiency in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools, processes, and languages.
Experience developing engineering solutions using:
Cloud-based technologies
Structured and unstructured Big Data
Automation, Augmentation, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies
Membership or leadership participation in professional organizations such as:
ACSM, ASCE, ASPRS, OGC, SAREM, or USGIF
