Peraton is seeking a Controls Engineer to support our work on NASA’s Deep Space Network (DSN) in Monrovia, CA. The DSN is a global array of large antennas that enables communication with interplanetary spacecraft and conducts critical space science missions. Join our team and help sustain and enhance the systems that connect Earth to the farthest reaches of the universe.
As a Controls Design Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing, maintaining, and upgrading controls systems for DSN facilities and antennas at complexes located in California, Spain, and Australia. You’ll develop technical solutions to complex challenges and drive continuous improvement across mission-critical infrastructure.
Design, troubleshoot, and maintain controls systems supporting facility and antenna subsystems
Drive engineering projects from concept through execution, ensuring system safety, compliance, and performance
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including HVAC, Electrical, Fiber Optic, and Fire Protection engineers
Ensure compliance with safety standards and applicable legal requirements
Interpret system requirements, propose design solutions, and coordinate across engineering disciplines
Provide on-site technical support and commissioning for control systems
Create and maintain project documentation including user manuals, test procedures, and installation guides
Required Qualifications:
Hands-on experience with at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g., Assembly, C, C++, Python)
Solid understanding of electrical and electronic components including resistors, capacitors, relays, actuators, AC/DC motors, motor controllers, and VFD/VSD systems.
Familiarity with serial and parallel communication protocols such as I2C, Modbus, CAN bus, and BACnet
Basic working knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) like Automated Logic (ALC), Carrier, or Johnson Controls Metasys.
Foundational understanding of sensor technologies (pressure, flow, voltage, current), analog and discrete I/O, PLC programming/Ladder Logic, and computer networking.
