Program Overview
About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Cloud Engineer to design, implement, and maintain secure cloud infrastructure in alignment with the NIST 800-53 security and compliance framework in support of the FAA BNATCS contract. This role is responsible for ensuring that cloud services meet stringent federal security requirements while supporting scalability, resilience, and operational efficiency. The Cloud Engineer will collaborate with cybersecurity, compliance, and IT teams to deliver secure, reliable, and compliant cloud solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Cloud Architecture & Deployment

  • Design and implement secure cloud environments across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Build and manage cloud infrastructure components (compute, storage, networking, IAM).
  • Support hybrid and multi-cloud deployments with a focus on scalability and resilience.

Security & Compliance

  • Integrate NIST 800-53 security controls into cloud architecture and operations.
  • Implement encryption, identity and access management, logging, and monitoring in compliance with federal standards.
  • Partner with cybersecurity teams to ensure continuous monitoring and vulnerability management.
  • Support audits, assessments, and accreditation processes (e.g., FISMA, FedRAMP).

Automation & Optimization

  • Develop Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates.
  • Automate deployment, configuration, and monitoring processes.
  • Optimize cloud performance, cost, and resource utilization.

Operations & Support

  • Provide Tier 2/3 support for cloud-related issues and escalations.
  • Monitor cloud environments for availability, performance, and security events.
  • Maintain documentation of configurations, procedures, and compliance evidence.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work closely with application, data, and security teams to deliver compliant cloud solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance on cloud best practices in regulated environments.
  • Contribute to modernization initiatives and cloud migration projects.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field with 8 years of cloud experience, Master's degree with 6 years of experience, or a Ph.D. with 3 years of experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in IT infrastructure design and architecture.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust
  • This is a remote capable position, however, candidates must be local to the Maryland/DC/NoVA area.
  • Strong knowledge of NIST 800-53 security controls and compliance frameworks (FISMA, FedRAMP).
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud services.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM).
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Professional certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or CISSP/CCSP are highly desirable.

  • Ability to translate regulatory requirements into technical solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
  • Experience working in federal or regulated environments.
SCA / Union / Intern Rate or Range

Details

Target Salary Range: $112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
