Program Overview
About The Role
Peraton is seeking a Technical Writer onsite in Annapolis Junction, MD.
- Create, edit, and maintain a wide range of technical documents, including system manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), user guides, engineering documentation, training materials, and contract deliverables.
- Translate highly technical information into clear, concise, and accessible content for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Collaborate with engineers, SMEs, developers, analysts, and program leadership to gather source material and validate technical accuracy.
- Ensure all documentation complies with customer standards, contract requirements, and applicable federal guidelines (e.g., DoD, DHS, IC, NIST).
- Develop and maintain document templates, style guides, and version‑control processes to support documentation consistency.
- Review and edit documents for grammar, clarity, organization, and compliance with Peraton and customer standards.
- Support proposal writing, technical volumes, and other business development documentation as needed.
- Manage documentation repositories and configuration control using approved tools (e.g., Confluence, SharePoint, Git, Jira).
- Provide mentorship or guidance to junior writers and contribute to documentation process improvements.
- Participate in technical meetings, design reviews, and customer briefings to capture requirements and updates.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s with 5 years of experience, MS +3, PhD +0; 4 years of additional work experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Requires active Top Secret clearance with SCI Eligibility
- Demonstrated ability to produce high‑quality documentation with minimal supervision.
- Strong understanding of technical concepts such as systems engineering, cybersecurity, software development, or IT operations.
- Proficiency with documentation tools such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Confluence, SharePoint, Visio, or similar platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple concurrent deliverables.
- Experience with Agile development environments and tools (Jira, GitLab, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting DoD, IC, or federal civilian agencies.
- Familiarity with NIST standards, RMF documentation, or system accreditation packages.
- Knowledge of XML‑based documentation or structured authoring tools.
- Experience contributing to proposals or technical volumes.
