Program Overview
About The Role

Join Peraton in advancing the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through the FAA’s Business, National Airspace, and Technical Computing Services (BNATCS) contract. As a trusted partner to the Federal Aviation Administration, Peraton helps deliver the systems and services that keep our nation’s skies safe and connected.

We’re looking for innovative professionals who thrive in mission-critical environments and are passionate about shaping the future of air traffic management. This is your chance to make an impact on one of the world’s most vital transportation infrastructures, working alongside leaders in aviation, engineering, data science, and systems integration.

At Peraton, you won’t just support the mission — you’ll define it.

The ATC Configuration Management Director provides executive leadership, governance, and strategic oversight for configuration management activities across complex Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems within the National Airspace System (NAS). In this senior role, you will ensure that all system baselines, technical documentation, hardware, and software configurations are rigorously controlled, fully traceable, and compliant with FAA and international standards.

As the senior authority on configuration management, you will establish enterprise-wide CM policies, lead change control processes, and coordinate seamlessly across engineering, operations, and sustainment teams to maintain system integrity throughout the lifecycle. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the modernization of the NAS while safeguarding mission-critical aviation systems that directly impact national air traffic safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and drive the overall configuration management strategy for ATC systems, ensuring alignment with FAA policies, NAS architecture requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Governance & Process Oversight: Establish, implement, and enforce CM processes, procedures, and tools for baseline management, change control, version control, and technical data management.
  • Change Control Authority: Direct the Change Control Board (CCB) and provide authoritative decisions on system modifications, upgrades, and configuration changes.
  • Baseline & Audit Management: Ensure accurate configuration identification, status accounting, and audit readiness for hardware, software, and documentation baselines.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, testing, in-service management, and operations teams to ensure consistent system configuration across the NAS.
  • Contractor & Vendor Oversight: Oversee contractor compliance with CM requirements and evaluate deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to program standards.
  • Metrics & Continuous Improvement: Develop and track performance metrics, monitor CM effectiveness, and implement process improvements to enhance system reliability and efficiency.
  • Executive Reporting: Provide senior leadership with data-driven insights, recommendations, and risk assessments related to configuration impacts, system changes, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Culture of Excellence: Champion a culture of rigor, discipline, and accountability in maintaining system integrity and traceability across the enterprise.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, systems management, or a related field, with a minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant experience. CM certification (CMPIC, CMII) is strongly desirable.

  • Extensive experience in configuration management for complex, safety-critical systems, preferably in aviation, defense, or transportation.

  • Strong knowledge of FAA acquisition processes, NAS systems, and industry CM standards, such as EIA-649, ISO 10007, and CMMI.

  • Proven leadership experience establishing and managing enterprise-level CM organizations, policies, and tools.

  • Expertise with configuration management tools and digital engineering environments, including DOORS, JIRA, Windchill, or equivalent platforms.

  • Exceptional communication, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

  • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
