Program Overview
Provide critical communications and tracking for multiple spacecraft from three complexes located globally, and operates year round 24 hours/7days to provide continuous contact with the spacecraft. The program fulfills NASA goals by supporting NASA deep space mission set, including NASA-funded missions and collaborative international missions.
About The Role

Peraton is seeking a Complex Maintenance Facility (CMF) Technician supporting the Deep Space Network DSN) in Fort Irwin, CA with JPL/NASA.

 

The Deep Space Network is NASA’s international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never-before-seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it.

 

This position reports to Complex Maintenance Facility Supervisor and functions under general direction.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Testing and repair of hydraulic pumps, hydraulic motors, water pumps, transducers, brake assemblies, and other electromechanical equipment.
  • Use mechanical measuring equipment such as torque wrenches, micrometers, and pressure gauges.
  • Configure and operate electronic test equipment used to test and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment down to component level.
  • Maintain and operate hydraulic test stands and test fixtures.
  • Fabricate cables, connectors and interface devices.
  • Develop new maintenance techniques and methods and improve existing procedures.
  • Initiate reverse engineering techniques when documentation is not available.
  • Use and facilitate computer automation to operate, test, and diagnose problems
  • Document work performed in a computerized maintenance management system
  • Accomplish tasks with little supervision or technical direction
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Must be able to lift more than 50lbs, crawl, bend, kneel or work in a cramped workspace
  • Sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Work in dusty, cold or hot areas
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of technical training
  • 5 years of experience in the repair, overhaul, and maintenance of hydraulic systems and electromechanical equipment.
  • A, B, or C level Classifications will be weighed against applicable Job Training Guides
  • You must be able to obtain a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC). In order to obtain clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship
  • You must possess and retain a valid Driver’s License (Real ID)

Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
