About The Role

Peraton is seeking a full-time Engineering Technician to join our team in Kauai, Hawaii to support our Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution contract working with electronics, mechanical, and radio frequency systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) for the NASA Kokee Park Geophysical Observatory (KPGO).

This position supports VLBI operations, maintenance, and sustainment of KPGO antenna systems and subsystems. Responsibilities will include:

  • Operation and Monitoring of KPGO antenna systems for VLBI operations.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing electronic, electromechanical, and radio frequency subsystems and components as necessary to ensure operability and maintainability of the VLBI systems.
  • Performing such tasks as replacing components and wiring circuits; repairing simple electronic equipment; and taking test readings using common instruments such as digital multimeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Providing hardware maintenance services which may include installation or modification and re-installation of existing equipment, preventive and corrective maintenance, and replacement of equipment as needed to maintain original hardware configuration functionality.
  • Performing mechanical preventative maintenance tasks on antenna systems which may include lubricating gears, gearbox oil changes, and metal corrosion control.
  • Applying comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems by interpreting manufacturers' manuals or similar documents.
  • Ability to understand and follow operational and maintenance procedures without deviation.
  • Performing duties in accordance with all systems engineering and configuration management policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of operations and maintenance documentation for KPGO VLBI systems.
  • Performing data acquisition and data transfer using Linux OS platforms.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and receive on the job training for VLBI Operations and Maintenance.
Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Education/Experience: AS/AA degree (or 2 years of technical training in engineering or electronics) and 2 years of related experience; without a degree, HS/GED and 6 years of related experience are allowable.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of related experience with hands-on electronic systems work.
  • Experience following operational and/or maintenance procedures.
  • Experience installing and maintaining mechanical equipment including gearboxes and motors.
  • Ability to perform standalone shift work on a rotating 24hr schedule.
  • Security clearance - this position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance and to maintain the clearance thereafter. You must be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
  • Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite.

 

PREFERRED:

  • Experience using test instruments to evaluate electrical components, including digital multimeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Experience using Linux OS based systems.

Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
