About The Role

We are seeking an Expert Systems Engineer to provide high-level technical leadership in support of complex geospatial intelligence systems across the National System of Geospatial-Intelligence (NSG), Allied System of Geospatial-Intelligence (ASG), and other federal partners.

 

The successful candidate will support the Government in applying a multi-disciplinary systems engineering approach to requirements development, solution design, architecture, integration, testing, resiliency, and lifecycle management for enterprise-scale mission systems.

 

The ideal candidate is a senior technical leader who can bridge mission needs and engineering execution while providing strategic guidance and driving innovation across highly complex intelligence systems.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Government in systems engineering efforts across large-scale GEOINT mission environments.
  • Translate mission needs and stakeholder objectives into technical requirements, system capabilities, and engineering solutions.
  • Evaluate and improve system architectures, workflows, interfaces, and cloud-based services.
  • Provide technical recommendations and expert guidance on solution designs, architectures, emerging technologies, and engineering approaches.
  • Perform requirements analysis, traceability, decomposition, allocation, and management across system and architecture components.
  • Support systems integration, verification, validation, testing, and performance engineering activities throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Lead or support: Analysis of Alternatives (AoA), Course of Action (COA) development, Trade studies, Engineering assessments
  • Contribute to strategic planning, risk management, interface design, technical roadmaps, and project execution.
  • Provide expert guidance in aligning mission vision, strategy, operational needs, and technical capabilities.
  • Coordinate and integrate engineering efforts across organizational, program, and agency boundaries.
  • Mentor, guide, and oversee junior and senior systems engineering staff.
  • Apply knowledge of current NSG, ASG, and NRO enterprise environments to support mission and engineering objectives.

Location: This position is fully onsite in either Chantilly or Springfield, VA

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Engineering Management, Management Information Systems, or another related STEM field.
  • 18+ years’ of equivalent expert-level experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
  • 18+ years of experience supporting Government or industry in one or more of the following areas: DoD/IC acquisition processes, Requirements development, Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution System (PPBES), Large-scale System-of-Systems environments, Cloud-based enterprise architectures
  • Strong understanding of the full systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements development, architecture, integration, verification, validation, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience with and/or working knowledge of GEOINT enterprise systems, data repositories, and data management environments, including systems used for GEOINT data storage, discovery, retrieval, transformation, dissemination, or management. Experience with systems such as NCL, iSToRE, GDTS, ODS, or comparable systems is required.
  • Experience with and/or working knowledge of imagery and/or imagery product library systems, including the storage, management, discovery, retrieval, cataloging, or dissemination of imagery and imagery-derived products.
  • Experience with and/or working knowledge of imagery metadata standards and formats, including the application of metadata requirements within GEOINT systems and workflows.
    • Knowledge of NSG PDD and associated Addenda, or comparable experience applying GEOINT data, product, or metadata standards and specifications.
  • Experience with and/or working knowledge of data cataloging approaches, methodologies, and systems, including the organization, description, discovery, and management of enterprise data assets.
  • A TS/SCI clearance with adjudicated SCI eligibility or the ability to obtain SCI eligibility and successfully complete a polygraph.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in a related technical discipline.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and methodologies.
  • Software Development Framework certification.
  • International Council on Systems Engineering Expert Systems Engineering Professional (ESEP) certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Active participation in professional organizations such as the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation, Open Geospatial Consortium, or American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.
  • Extensive experience supporting geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) missions and systems.
  • Experience designing and implementing solutions using: Cloud technologies, including SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS; Big Data platforms; Automation technologies; Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) technologies
  • Expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, Image Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geomatics, Information Science

Additional Consideration

Candidates may demonstrate the required GEOINT data management, imagery library, metadata, and data cataloging qualifications through experience with NCL, iSToRE, GDTS, ODS, or other comparable systems, tools, architectures, standards, and mission environments. Equivalent demonstrated experience may be considered when evaluating whether a candidate meets these requirements.

 

Details

Target Salary Range: $135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
