Food Service Worker

Peraton is seeking a Kitchen Worker supporting the Deep Space Network (DSN) in Fort Irwin, CA with JPL/NASA.

The Deep Space Network is NASA’s international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never-before-seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it.

The kitchen worker will assist other kitchen staff members with various food preparation, sanitation, and general kitchen duties on an as needed basis. This role requires flexibility to perform a wide range of tasks to support the efficient operation of the kitchen during peak periods, special events and staff absences.

Responsibilities:

• Understanding of proper food handling, preparation, storage, critical control points and contamination control (HACCP) under the supervision of the Lead Cook (Food Manager).
• Ability to operate a cash register
• Ability to operate dishwasher and hand wash dishes as needed.
• Make sure all plasticware and paperware are stacked, put away condiments and ensure that salt/pepper and napkin holders are full.
• Ability to deliver all “to go” food orders to other departments on complex.
• Ensure all tables are wiped down in between customers.
• Wipe down shelves in kitchen and fridges weekly.
• Demonstrated ability to operate the tea and coffee machines, prepare ta and coffee, complete the sanitizing process and the standard daily cleaning process.
• Sweep and mop floors daily (kitchen area).
• Demonstrated ability to complete hood cleaning process weekly.
• Ability to clean the steam line weekly.
• Able to complete all product stocking tasks.
• Responsible for performing daily office tasks such as filing, recording, maintaining records, copying, posting, and other similar duties, using a computer terminal.
• Skilled in the use of the MS Office Suite, predominantly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Follows organization and department procedures to complete tasks in a timely manner.
• Assist in ensuring a high level of health, safety, cleanliness, food hygiene and safe working practices are followed.
• Carry out any other reasonable duties within the overall function of the job.

Required Qualifications:

• Must have HS Diploma and 1+ year of experience working in a kitchen environment
• Must have experience with basic maintenance of kitchen equipment
• Must have the flexibility to work on short notice
• Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs
• Must have excellent customer service skills
• Must be able to follow instructions and work as part of a team
• Must have a Food Handlers Card
• Must be able to obtain a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC). In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship. 
• Must possess and retain a valid Driver’s License (Real ID).
