About The Role

Peraton is delivering advanced mission planning, digital engineering, and command‑and‑control capabilities supporting the U.S. Government’s space communications enterprise. Our team uses modern MBSE practices to translate mission needs into precise, traceable, and verifiable technical requirements across a complex, multi‑system environment.

 

As a Full Stack Software Engineer, you will contribute to the design and development of core platform services that support secure, scalable, and reliable satellite ground communications and data‑transport capabilities. You will develop frontend and backend architectures, implement mission‑critical services, and participate in technical decision‑making that ensures consistent, resilient, and compliant system performance for U.S. Government missions. In this role, you will create backend components, collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams, and ensure technical solutions align with system requirements and program objectives.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Build multi‑tenant backend services on public cloud platforms such as AWS.
  • Architect, develop, and consume APIs and backend services with an emphasis on automation, security, testing, and maintainability.
  • Create software system designs from business requirements and translate functional needs into technical specifications.
  • Present technical designs and recommendations to engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Test teams to ensure alignment between requirements, models, and system implementation.
  • Develop backend services using Python, including APIs, automation logic, and platform‑level components.
  • Design user interfaces (UI) and implement reusable front‑end software components to support consistent, accessible, and maintainable application functionality.
  • Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms, 
  • Develop microservices and associated service‑to‑service communication patterns.
  • Investigate and resolve production issues using structured diagnostic and troubleshooting methods.
  • Support customer and partner integration activities as part of platform deployment and capability development.
  • Solve complex technical challenges related to secure and scalable satellite communications infrastructure.
Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field and 10+ years of relevant experience; OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 8+ years of experience; OR Master’s degree in a related field and 6+ years of experience; OR Doctoral degree in a related field and 3+ years of experience. An additional four (4) years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • This position requires the candidate possess a minimum Secret clearance. The candidate must maintain the clearance.
  • Proficiency in Python development for backend systems and APIs.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing relational databases, including SQL, triggers, functions, and stored procedures.
  • Experience implementing authentication and authorization mechanisms, including RBAC and ABAC.
  • Experience with microservice development and backend service architectures.
  • Proficiency in developing software using TypeScript, including use of modern language features, strong type checking, and practices that support maintainable and reliable code.
  • Experience developing and building front‑end applications using Vite and associated modern web development tools.
  • Experience with contemporary front‑end development practices, including component‑based architecture, state management techniques, application routing, and responsive design.
  • Experience using Git‑based source control systems and participating in structured code review processes.
  • Experience investigating and resolving production issues in operational environments.
  • Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and automated test workflows.
  • Working knowledge of PKI concepts and asynchronous messaging architectures.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, OAuth 2.0, JWT, Git, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, Kafka, and Unix shell scripting.
  • Experience applying Zero Trust software development principles.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm for containerized deployment and orchestration.
  • Experience with at least one major commercial cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with MBSE and Test engineering teams.
  • Ability to prepare and present technical designs and recommendations to cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to engage with end‑users to clarify requirements or support implementation activities.
  • Ability to learn new tools, technologies, or frameworks in support of evolving project needs.

Target Salary Range: $135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
