Program Overview
IT computing services including end-to-end IT support, maintaining network architecture and infrastructure, managing software designs with rapid applications development, and Battle Simulations Exercise Control and technical support for military occupational specialty courses.
About The Role

Peraton and MIITS Fort Huachuca is seeking an part-time  IT Cybersecurity Intern to support cybersecurity operations and Information Technology systems in support of the U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence (MIITS Contract). This internship provides hands-on experience within an enterprise IT and cybersecurity environment while working alongside experienced cybersecurity, systems administration, networking, and other technical professionals.

Duties are projected to be one day per week, roughly eight hours. The duration of this internship is estimated at one year, or full adjudication of TS/SCI.

What you’ll do:

The IT Cybersecurity Intern will be responsible for the following, under the guidance and supervision of senior technical staff, including but not limited to:

  • Assist cybersecurity personnel with monitoring and maintaining the security posture of IT systems and infrastructure.
  • Support vulnerability identification, tracking, remediation, and documentation activities.
  • Assist with reviewing system security configurations and identifying potential security concerns.
  • Support vulnerability scanning and assessment activities using approved cybersecurity tools.
  • Assist with system patching, security updates, and vulnerability remediation efforts.
  • Support Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance and remediation activities.
  • Assist with maintaining cybersecurity documentation, reports, checklists, and system records.
  • Support Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities and cybersecurity compliance requirements.
  • Assist with reviewing security alerts, logs, and events and escalate potential issues to appropriate cybersecurity personnel.
  • Support account management, access control, and user security requirements.
  • Assist with endpoint security and system hardening activities.
  • Work with Cybersecurity Analysts, Systems Administrators, Network Administrators, Project Managers, and other MIITS personnel to support customer requirements.
  • Follow established DoD, Army, organizational, cybersecurity, and information assurance policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree, certificate, or technical training program in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts and information security principles.
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and networking fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with common networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, ports, and firewalls.
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, malware, phishing, and common attack methods.
  • Familiarity with Windows operating systems and enterprise IT environments.
  • Ability to follow established security procedures and accurately document technical information.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong willingness and ability to learn cybersecurity technologies, tools, and processes.
  • U.S. Citizenship ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Security Clearance and/or access required for the position.

Desired qualifications:

  • CompTIA Security+ certification or currently working toward Security+.
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, or other entry-level IT/cybersecurity certification.
  • Familiarity with DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Familiarity with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
  • Exposure to vulnerability scanning and management tools.
  • Familiarity with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) concepts or tools.
  • Basic understanding of Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows Server.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, cloud security, or other cloud computing environments.
  • Basic knowledge of PowerShell, Python, or other scripting technologies.
  • Previous IT help desk, cybersecurity, systems administration, networking, or technical internship experience.
  • Familiarity with DoD or U.S. Army IT environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

$24/hour+

Target Salary Range: The rate / range per hour below represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
