Program Overview
Peraton provides the customer with enterprise infrastructure support to plan, engineer, implement, enhance, maintain and operate the global consular affairs IT environment.
About The Role

Peraton is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals on our Department of State (DOS) Bureau of Diplomatic Technology (DT) Consular Affairs Enterprise Infrastructure Operations (CAEIO) Program. CAEIO provides IT Operations and Maintenance to modernize the legacy networks, applications, and databases supporting consular applications services globally. 

  

The Junior Software Engineer will be a member of the Engineering Team that works closely with other CAEIO teams, application/system owners, and government stakeholders to deliver consular services used by 30 Passport Offices, 240 Embassies/Consulates, and many other Department of State sites domestically.  

  

We are seeking applicants who have graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in the last 18 months. 

  

Responsibilities 

  • Support software engineering for mission essential capabilities hosted domestically, overseas, and the cloud.
  • Support automation development efforts for systems, applications, databases, and infrastructure.
  • Adhere to Department of State procedures and requirements when implementing software security, scalability, and performance.
  • Participate in CST working groups and priority initiatives related to automation.
  • Leverage tools (Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow) to track all engineering features, stories, and tasks.  
  • Ensure all configuration changes follow approved change management processes and security configuration guidelines.  
  • Support Government customer with ad hoc tasks and data calls. 

 

Core work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. 

  

Work location: This position is currently hybrid with one day per week in our Sterling office (5 minutes from Dulles Airport) and the rest remote. The number of days in the office is subject to change based on program or government requirements. 

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications 

  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a SECRET government security clearance and TOP SECRET, if needed.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Familiarity and some experience with software development, databases, and data structures through coursework or internships.
  • Experience with one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, SQL).
  • Basic understanding of networking, client-server architecture, application/database design, and cloud principles.  
  • Problem solving, communication, collaboration and time management skills are a must. 
  • Ability to work in a high tempo environment. 

 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Experience with automation tools including Ansible and Ansible Automation Platform.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools in cloud environments (Azure, OCI, AWS)
  • Experience with YAML.
  • Experience with CI/CD Tools (e.g. Github, Jenkins, others).
  • Experience with networking, servers, databases, virtual/physical infrastructure, cloud, and containerized environments. 
  • Industry relevant certifications.

Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical field; 0 - 18 months experience.

Details

Target Salary Range: $66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
