Program Overview
Integrates system of Intelligent Transportation devices to monitor traffic, notify motorists of incidents like crashes or roadwork, and provide real-time updates through signs, social media, and other tools. By offering Freeway Service Patrols and timely traffic alerts, travelers avoid delays, plan alternate routes, and stay safe while reducing congestion and improving response times.

The part-time Traffic Operations Center (TOC)  Specialist may work various shifts and may be required to work weekends, holidays, and fill in on other shifts when needed. The main shift for this role will be Saturdays and Sundays from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

 

This person will interact with other employees through their daily routines to ensure customers have a satisfactory experience. TOC Specialists act as quality control, ensuring customer satisfaction through training employees properly and adhering to company policy. This person will lead the shift operations of the TOC Control Room, and will assist with resolving technical problems and personnel issues in a Traffic Operations Center environment. They utilize expertise in customer service and technical knowledge gained to resolve issues surrounding usage, training, and daily delivery of services to the customer, first responders, and the motoring public.

 

Duties Include:

  • Leading shift operations of the TOC. Fills in for an operator when necessary
  • Assisting TOC staff in gathering and coordinating traffic information from multiple sources
  • Scheduling personnel - Leads, coaches and guides operators to mitigate errors and identify training needs.
  • Coaches others to minimize minor transgressions and documents repeated offenses
  • Ensures the quality of the information disseminated. Schedules ITS assets for upcoming construction projects, community events, and ongoing real-time incidents
  • Communicates directly with our customer (KYTC) to ensure mutual goals are reached and the customer is kept informed of activity critical to their mission
  • Ensures appropriate notifications are made to media outlets and other stakeholders of on-going and planned events
  • Monitors the computer network and alerts the System Administrator and TRIMARC Management when anomalies occur
  • Monitors TRIMARC social media sites daily and updates as needed.
  • Oversees the orientation and training of newly employed TOC Operators
  • Audits operator input to ATMS software
  • Monitors project field asset status
  • Extends operation hours when necessary for major traffic incidents or severe weather
  • Keeps subcontract supervisors informed of mutual personnel issues and equipment problems
  • Tracks operator time
  • Maintains rapport with other TOC Shift Leads to ensure smooth shift transition
  • Represents TRIMARC and / or Peraton at meetings with various stakeholders
  • Compiles technical documents and other documents with a high level of accuracy
  • Develops future TRIMARC leaders.
  • Performs other related duties. Assists TRIMARC management as needed
  • Completes Tunnel Certification testing as well as facilitates and trains others; administers operator Tunnel Certification Testing as directed by TRIMARC management
  • Oversees East End Tunnel operations
  • Leads operators in identifying and responding to wrong way drivers using established protocols
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma and minimum of 3 years experience
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A high degree of technical proficiency using computer hardware and software (Microsoft environment)
  • Good vision – must be able to read items on a computer screen and CCTV cameras
  • Good hearing – ability to hear two-way radio communication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Scheduling of personnel and resources.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Excellent problem-solving ability
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work different shifts within a 24-hour work environment
  • Ability to work various shifts

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience dealing with public safety agencies
  • 2 years of prior experience leading personnel in projects

 

Benefits:

  • As a part time employee (less than 30 hours a week), you will not be eligible for health, dental or vision insurance. However, limited benefits are available.

Details

Target Salary Range: $30,000 - $48,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
