Program Overview
About The Role

Peraton is seeking a General Engineering Manager II to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the NASA Glenn Engineering and Research Support (GEARS) Contract team.  The manager leads a team of 5–10 engineering professionals supporting the Facilities Infrastructure Division (FID) at NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC). This role supports the FD Engineering Management Branch, which provides engineering and design services for maintenance and construction activities across GRC facilities and associated infrastructure. The manager ensures timely delivery of cost estimates, design packages, and technical support for ongoing projects, while collaborating with NASA Facility Design and Planning (FDP) for prioritizing and compliance with agency standards.

 

Responsibilities of the position:

 

The manager will oversee GEARS engineering and design staff supporting the FD Engineering Management Branch. This includes:

  • Architectural Services: Designs for renovations of laboratories and offices, ADA compliance, and life safety code analysis.
  • Electrical Engineering: Controls, power distribution, and lighting systems.
  • Mechanical Engineering: Design of piping systems (chilled water, cooling tower water, domestic water, fire protection, natural gas, steam, air, plumbing) and HVAC upgrades.
  • CAD Design/Drafting: Support for all disciplines listed above.
  • Construction Cost Estimating: Using knowledge of construction practices and cost estimating software, prepare detailed cost estimates for project concept, interim design submittals, final design submittals, review of construction alternatives, change orders, and government-initiated contract modifications.
  • Occasional Travel: To Armstrong Test Facility for project support.
  • Supervise and mentor 5–10 engineers, CAD technicians, and cost estimating professionals.
  • Oversee engineering design and cost estimation for maintenance and new construction projects.
  • Prepare and review detailed construction cost estimates for projects under Code F.
  • Direct preparation of project drawings and specifications for complex systems.
  • Support weekly status meetings with government representatives to address changing priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with NASA standards and applicable codes.
  • Monitor contractor performance and adherence to schedules.

Additional requirements:

  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams including Architecture, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in facilities design and construction support.
  • Knowledge of LEED design and construction principles.
  • Oversight of CAD technicians supporting facility engineering design.
  • Expertise in Construction Cost Estimating using industry-standard software.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related field).
  • Ten years of experience in engineering experience, including two or more years of  supervisory or managerial role.
  • Proven experience in cost estimation, design-build projects, and facility maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of construction standards, specifications, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with NASA or government agencies.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, ADEPT, and project management tools.
  • PMP certification.

 

SCA / Union / Intern Rate or Range

Details

Target Salary Range: $112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
