Program Overview
Program management, engineering, and technical support for the Air Systems Group, focusing on research, systems engineering, and evaluation of naval air propulsion and power systems. Focus includes air-breathing engines, auxiliary power systems, helicopter transmissions, fuel systems, and propulsion system performance, supported by roles like data scientists, engineers, and chemists.
About The Role

Peraton is hiring a Propulsion Structures Engineer in a hybrid position supporting NAWCAD's structural integrity programs at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland.  You will perform critical risk assessments, analyze propulsion system data, and establish safety limits to ensure the airworthiness and sustainment of military aircraft and missile systems. Senior engineers will mentor junior staff.

 

What you will do:

  • Perform time-sensitive risk assessments of propulsion hardware
  • Establish and validate life limits for safety-critical components
  • Analyze mission data to validate engine life-prediction algorithms
  • Evaluate OEM life prediction data to support system airworthiness
  • Develop and execute component test plans to address service issues
  • Create requirements and maintain analysis dashboards using Python and SQL
  • Develop proposals for new testing technologies and modeling capabilities
  • Present technical results to customers and represent NAWCAD at industry events.
Qualifications

 

What you will need:

  • BS/BA in Engineering and 8 years or MS/MA and 6 years, or PhD and 3 years
  • Aerospace, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering degree is preferred
  • Proven teamwork, communication, and project management skills
  • Familiarity with gas turbine engines and system failure modes
  • Travel up to 25% may be required to support program needs
  • Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain.  Must be a U.S. citizen.

Desired:

  • Propulsion Systems: Experience with structures, fatigue life management, gas turbine design, material failure mechanisms (fatigue, creep, fracture), and testing
  • Analysis & Modeling: Proficiency with FEA (ANSYS, Abaqus), fracture mechanics tools (DARWIN, FRANC3D), and probabilistic methods (Monte Carlo, Weibull)
  • Programming: Dashboard development with Python, SQL, or PowerBI
  • Environment: Experience with safety-critical systems, DoD/Navy aviation processes, and qualification of additively manufactured parts

Target Salary Range: $104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
