About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Network Engineer, SME to join our team in the greater DMV area, supporting the Army National Guard.
Responsibilities
- Provide enterprise technical authority for network architecture, engineering standards, and infrastructure modernization across ARNG G6 environments.
- Establish routing, switching, firewall, VPN, load‑balancing, and secure transport design frameworks aligned with enterprise architecture and cybersecurity requirements.
- Review and adjudicate complex WAN and LAN engineering designs to ensure scalability, interoperability with legacy systems, and alignment with future‑state architectures.
- Advise leadership on network performance, resiliency risk, JRSS integration, circuit strategy, and mission continuity tradeoffs.
- Guide site readiness assessments, capacity planning, and infrastructure optimization to sustain reliable enterprise connectivity.
- Oversee configuration governance, design documentation standards, and change validation processes to maintain auditability and operational integrity.
- Coordinate cross‑functional integration with SOC/CIRT, NOC, cloud, and enterprise architecture teams to ensure secure, maintainable deployments.
- Produce decision‑grade artifacts: DoDAF views, technical roadmaps, BOMs, ROMs/COAs, and executive briefings for modernization programs.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 12 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 10 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 7 years with Ph.D.
Clearance: Active TS/SCI clearance.
Candidate must meet ONE of the following:
- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field; OR
- Relevant DoD/military training (example: Research & Development Specialist (Advanced) Playlist); OR
- Relevant professional certification or equivalent experience (examples: SecurityX/CASP+; RCCE Level 1; CEH; GCLD).
Required experience and skills:
- Network architecture/engineering experience with at least 7 years in senior or SME network roles supporting enterprise or DoD environments.
- Deep expertise in routing/switching, WAN/LAN design, SD‑WAN concepts, VPN and secure transport architectures, load balancing, and multi‑domain (NIPR/SIPR/cloud) integrations.
- Proven track record reviewing large‑scale network designs, producing DoDAF‑aligned artifacts, and delivering ROMs/COAs and technical roadmaps.
- Strong knowledge of DISA STIGs/IAVM processes, RMF/ATO interactions, JRSS integration considerations, and operational resiliency/COOP requirements.
- Ability to lead architecture governance, mentor engineering teams, and produce decision‑grade briefings for senior leadership.
Desired:
- Prior DoD/ARNG/NETCOM experience in enterprise network modernization and multi‑site fielding.
- Experience with automation/orchestration, network provisioning APIs, SD‑WAN, and cloud connectivity patterns.
- Demonstrated capability in cost/licensing optimization, vendor engagement, and technical leadership of distributed operations teams.

Target Salary Range: $135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
