About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Network Engineering Lead to join our team in the greater DMV area, supporting the Army National Guard.
Responsibilities
- Provide advanced technical authority for enterprise network engineering: routing, switching, firewall architectures, VPN solutions, load balancing, segmentation, and secure connectivity services.
- Define and refine engineering standards, reference architectures, configuration baselines, and implementation templates to ensure scalability, interoperability, and compliance.
- Advise on WAN/LAN modernization, technology refresh cycles, and integration of emerging capabilities while preserving mission continuity for legacy systems.
- Develop capacity models, resiliency strategies, and performance optimization approaches to enhance availability, redundancy, and fault tolerance.
- Conduct in‑depth technical reviews of network designs, complex incident resolutions, and infrastructure changes to validate alignment with enterprise architecture and best practices.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity, cloud, infrastructure, and operations teams to mitigate risk, remediate vulnerabilities, and improve performance across hybrid and multi‑domain environments.
- Analyze network telemetry, outage data, and SLA metrics to identify systemic issues and recommend sustainable engineering improvements.
- Maintain comprehensive engineering documentation: standards, implementation guides, configuration templates, runbooks, and strategic roadmaps.
- Mentor engineering teams, lead governance discussions, and support architecture/review boards to institutionalize best practices and ensure long‑term operational maturity.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 12 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 10 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 7 years with Ph.D.
Clearance: Active TS/SCI clearance.
Candidate must meet ONE of the following:
- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field; OR
- Relevant DoD/military training (example: Research & Development Specialist (Advanced) Playlist); OR
- Relevant professional certification or equivalent experience (examples: SecurityX/CASP+; RCCE Level 1; CEH; GCLD).
Required experience and skills:
- Network engineering/architecture experience with at least 7 years in senior or SME network engineering roles.
- Deep hands‑on expertise in routing/switching, WAN design (including SD‑WAN), VPN and secure transport, load balancing, segmentation, and multi‑domain integrations (NIPR/SIPR/cloud).
- Proven experience performing technical design reviews, incident root‑cause analysis, capacity planning, and performance tuning at enterprise scale.
- Strong skills in automation/orchestration, network provisioning APIs, configuration management, and scripting (PowerShell/Python) for operational efficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to produce decision‑grade artifacts: technical roadmaps, BOMs, ROMs/COAs, and executive briefings.
Desired:
- Prior DoD/ARNG/NETCOM experience supporting enterprise network modernization and multi‑site fielding.
- Experience with Exadata/engineered systems integration, network orchestration, SD‑WAN, and cloud connectivity patterns.
- Track record mentoring distributed engineering teams and leading architecture governance and standards adoption.

Details
Target Salary Range: $135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
