About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Power BI Developer to join our team in the greater DMV area, supporting the Army National Guard.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture and delivery of enterprise Power BI solutions: design scalable semantic models, governed datasets, and enterprise reporting frameworks.
  • Define advanced data modeling and transformation approaches using Power Query, DAX, and dimensional modeling best practices to ensure performance and reusability.
  • Oversee data integration from SQL Server, Dataverse, SharePoint, data warehouses, APIs, and cloud sources; implement incremental refresh, aggregations, and row‑level security.
  • Establish visualization standards for effective data storytelling, accessibility, and UX while ensuring governance, lineage, and compliance.
  • Partner with executive stakeholders to standardize KPIs, formalize business logic, and translate strategic objectives into sustainable reports and dashboards.
  • Implement testing, deployment pipelines, version control, and lifecycle management for Power BI artifacts; monitor dataset performance and resolve refresh/capacity issues.
  • Maintain documentation of models, calculations, refresh orchestration, and architectural decisions; mentor junior developers and contribute to a Power BI Center of Excellence.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD
  • Clearance: Active TS/SCI clearance.

  • Candidate must meet ONE of the following:

    • Master’s degree in Computer Science (MS) or a related field; OR
    • Relevant professional certification or equivalent experience (example: Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Developer Associate); OR
    • Relevant DoD/military training (example: DAU SWE 301).
  • Required experience and skills:

    • BI/data engineering/analytics experience with at least 3 years designing and delivering enterprise Power BI solutions.
    • Expert proficiency in Power Query (M), DAX, semantic modeling, and performance tuning for large datasets.
    • Hands‑on experience integrating data from relational databases, Dataverse, SharePoint, APIs, and cloud data platforms; implementing incremental refresh and aggregation strategies.
    • Expertise with Power BI Service: workspaces, capacities, refresh orchestration, row‑level security, deployment pipelines, and monitoring.
    • Strong skills in data storytelling, dashboard design, testing/deployment pipelines, documentation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Desired:

    • Prior DoD/enterprise Power BI governance or Center of Excellence experience.
    • Experience with ALM for Power Platform, CI/CD for reports, advanced capacity tuning, and integration with enterprise data catalogs and lineage tools.

Details

Target Salary Range: $104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
