Join a mission-driven team at the forefront of U.S. aviation safety and surveillance modernization. As a Senior Surveillance Systems Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across critical BNATCS surveillance and supporting domains, helping shape and integrate complex systems that directly support the FAA’s National Airspace System (NAS). This is a high-visibility role for an experienced systems engineering leader who thrives in complex, cross-domain environments and enjoys turning strategic objectives into executable, validated system solutions.
During training and orientation this role will be based in Chantilly and then transition to Bethesda, MD.
As a senior technical authority, you will lead systems engineering efforts across the full lifecycle—from concept to deployment—ensuring systems are robust, compliant, and operationally effective.
Key responsibilities include:
Provide senior systems engineering leadership across surveillance systems, including radar integration, architecture development, and cross-domain system integration
Lead and contribute to system architecture, requirements development, interface control, configuration management, and design reviews
Translate high-level operational and business needs into quantifiable, traceable system and subsystem requirements
Ensure compliance with FAA, government, and industry standards through formal verification and validation (V&V) methods
Conduct and lead technical trade studies, performance assessments, and risk evaluations
Support and participate in major lifecycle reviews including SRR, PDR, CDR, and CCB activities
Design and manage system interfaces to ensure seamless integration of hardware, software, and operational elements
Develop verification procedures, test plans, and customer acceptance test criteria, and actively participate in system testing
Resolve complex cross-domain engineering challenges, balancing performance, cost, schedule, and risk
Serve as a technical liaison with customers and stakeholders, supporting requirement definition and business development efforts
Collaborate closely with multi-discipline engineering teams to ensure system-level coherence and traceability throughout development
Basic Qualifications:
Systems architecture and lifecycle engineering
Requirements development, management, and traceability
Interface control and configuration management
Formal design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and CCB participation
Verification, validation, and compliance methodologies
Strong ability to translate high-level operational needs into quantifiable, testable system requirements
Experience working across multi-discipline engineering teams (hardware, software, systems, test)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders
