Program Overview
The program is a next generation Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Indications and Warning (I&W) system. It establishes a repository of resident space objects (RSOs), finds RSOs of interest, and provides data to ground operators.
About The Role

Peraton is seeking a Site reliability Engineer in Herndon, VA or Aurora, CO to support Intelligence Community and DoD customers as part of a talented, high-performing team. As part of this team you will work with emerging service and distributed computing technologies for satellite situational awareness (SSA) data processing and distribution.   

 

The EMMETT program, a next gen Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Indications and Warning (I&W) system, establishes a repository of resident space objects (RSOs), finds RSOs of interest, and provides data to ground operators. The EMMETT team uses: programmatics, sensor modeling, and system engineering expertise to deliver this world-class SDA I&W system. 

 

What you'll do: 

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues across Java Spring Boot applications, distributed services, and supporting infrastructure in classified environments.
  • Investigate production incidents, perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous service improvements to enhance system stability and operational resilience.
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain application code, automation scripts, and tooling that improve system performance, operational efficiency, and maintainability.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines, ensuring secure, repeatable, and automated software delivery processes within classified environments.
  • Manage source code repositories, branching strategies, and software baselines using Git-based version control platforms such as GitLab and Bitbucket.
  • Perform system upgrades, patching, configuration management, and release activities while minimizing operational impact to mission systems.
  • Partner with development teams to optimize application observability through logging, monitoring, alerting, and performance tuning initiatives.
  • Support deployment, administration, and troubleshooting of modern data processing and containerized technologies including Kubernetes, Kafka, NiFi, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, and ArgoCD.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, and retrospectives to support rapid delivery of mission capabilities.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, troubleshooting guides, and system support artifacts.
  • Participate in technical review boards, discrepancy review boards, and release readiness activities to ensure mission and operational requirements are met.
  • Provide after-hours operational support on a rotational on-call basis and respond to critical system issues as required.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, OR Masters degree with 3+ years experience. Additional four (4) years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • This position requires the candidate possess a minimum of TS clearance with SCI eligibility and the ability to pass a polygraph within 30 days of employment or at customers request- contract requires TS/SCI with poly. The candidate must maintain the clearance.
  • Prior Experience in SRE, DevOps, Systems Engineering or Software Engineering Roles
  • Experience with supporting, troubleshooting, and performing maintenance activities for Java Springboot applications
  • Experience with writing source code for new applications or generating and enhancing code samples for existing applications, and using back-end and front-end languages to develop complete solutions 
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines built for classified environments, and Agile methodology
  • Experience with version control systems, including Bitbucket and GitLab
  • Ability to provide call-in support after hours on a rotational basis
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve software issues quickly and efficiently, and assist customers with technical issues via phone or email
  • DOD 8570 or 8140 IAT Level II Certification, such as Security+ CE, SSCP, CySA+, CCNA-Security, CND, GICSP, or GSEC Certification, or IAT level III Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active/current TS/SCI with poly
  • Experience with NiFi, Kafka, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Kubernetes, or ArgoCD
  • Experience with producing and maintaining technical documentation
  • Experience supporting technical review, planning, and discrepancy boards
  • Experience with performing Release Management activities

Details

Target Salary Range: $112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
