As a trusted partner to the Federal Aviation Administration, Peraton helps deliver the systems and services that keep our nation’s skies safe and connected.
We’re looking for innovative professionals who thrive in mission-critical environments and are passionate about shaping the future of air traffic management. This is your chance to make an impact on one of the world’s most vital transportation infrastructures, working alongside leaders in aviation, engineering, data science, and systems integration.
At Peraton, you won’t just support the mission — you’ll define it.
Join a team dedicated to protecting the safety and integrity of U.S. air travel. Peraton is seeking an experienced Surveillance Radar Specialist to support the design, integration, modernization, and sustainment of FAA surveillance systems across the National Airspace System (NAS). This role provides technical leadership and oversight for radar-based and cooperative surveillance systems, ensuring performance, safety, interoperability, and operational readiness across both ground-based and aircraft-dependent surveillance environments. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with primary and secondary radar systems, ADS-B, and FAA surveillance architectures, and has worked closely with TPMs, engineers, and architects across surveillance, networking, and communications domains.
In this position, you will:
Provide technical leadership and engineering support for FAA surveillance and radar systems.
Support design, analysis, and sustainment of primary surveillance radar (PSR) and secondary surveillance radar (SSR) systems.
Work with cooperative and non-cooperative surveillance technologies, including:
ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast)
ASR-7 and ASR-11 airport surveillance radars
ARSR (Air Route Surveillance Radar) systems
Support integration of surveillance systems with networking and communications infrastructures.
Collaborate with Technical Program Managers (TPMs), system engineers, network engineers, and architects to align designs and deployments.
Evaluate system performance, coverage, accuracy, latency, and availability.
Support ground-based surveillance systems and understand interactions with aircraft-based avionics and transponders.
Participate in site surveys, system upgrades, acceptance testing, and operational readiness reviews.
Support troubleshooting of radar and surveillance anomalies across hardware, software, and network interfaces.
Ensure compliance with FAA standards, safety requirements, and operational constraints.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, system diagrams, and engineering artifacts.
Support modernization initiatives transitioning from legacy surveillance systems to next-generation architectures.
Surveillance systems are the foundation of air traffic safety. As a Surveillance Radar Specialist, your work directly impacts the FAA’s ability to detect, track, and manage aircraft safely and efficiently. You will help ensure that radar and ADS-B systems provide accurate, reliable situational awareness—supporting controller decision-making, system resiliency, and the continued modernization of U.S. aviation infrastructure.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience managing technical dependencies, interfaces, upgrades, and sustainment.
Experience coordinating with vendors like INDRA, SAAB.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with surveillance system integration, fusion, or tracking systems.
Knowledge of communications and networking dependencies supporting radar data transport.
Background in systems engineering lifecycle support (requirements, design, test, deployment).
