Join Peraton in advancing the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through the FAA’s Brand New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS) contract. Peraton is seeking a Systems Architect SME to lead the design and integration of complex, mission-critical systems supporting the National Airspace System. In this strategic role, you will guide enterprise-level architecture decisions across telecommunications, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and application domains. You will define target-state architectures, influence modernization strategies, and ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with federal standards. Your expertise will directly impact the performance, reliability, and long-term sustainability of systems that support safe and efficient air travel across the United States.

 

 

Work Location:

  • This position will work on site in the DC Metro area. Once operations are fully established, we will consider telework options however, this is not guaranteed.

 

In this position, you will:

  • Leads enterprise-level system architecture for integrated telecom and IT environments.
  • Defines technical baselines, interfaces, and modernization strategies.
  • Guides engineering teams and advises leadership on architecture trade-offs.
  • Develop and maintain target-state architecture roadmaps aligned with mission priorities.
  • Guide cross-domain integration across telecommunications, networking, cloud, cybersecurity, and applications.
  • Ensure compliance with federal standards, regulatory requirements, and security frameworks.
  • Identify architectural risks and develop mitigation strategies to reduce technical debt and complexity.
  • Mentor systems engineers and architects to promote consistency and architectural discipline.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 12 years’ experience or Masters degree and 10 years’ experience or Associate’s degree and 14 years’ experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 16 years’ experience.
  • Systems architecture experience supporting complex environments.
  • Proven experience leading architecture reviews and enterprise-level solution design.
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering lifecycle processes (requirements, design, integration, verification, validation).
  • Familiarity with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, DoDAF, or equivalent methodologies.
  • Experience integrating telecommunications, networking, and cloud systems.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with National Airspace System (NAS) architecture and modernization initiatives (e.g., NextGen).
  • Certifications: TOGAF or cloud architecture certs preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis, reporting, and visualization.
  • Strong ability to interpret complex data and deliver actionable insights.
  • Proven experience designing efficient workflows.
  • Expertise in managing and optimizing processes for compliance and performance.

Details

Target Salary Range: $135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
