Program Overview
About The Role

Peraton Labs is seeking an AI/ML Capability Lead to advance data-driven and AI-enabled capabilities for the FAA BNATCS Program. Within this role, you will support the Program CTO to coordinate analytical requirements across workstreams and help shape the application of advanced analytics in support of aviation modernization. The ideal candidate for this role brings deep experience in aviation stakeholders and data environments, along with strong technical grounding in AI/ML methods relevant to operational decision support.

 

This role provides an opportunity to shape how advanced analytics and AI capabilities are applied to one of the most important modernization efforts in aviation. You will help define high-impact use cases, guide technical direction, and work alongside leading research, engineering, and mission teams to deliver capabilities with real operational value.

 

Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the development and maturation of advanced analytics capabilities supporting FAA BNATCS priorities
  • Partner with workstream leads, technical teams, and stakeholders to identify and prioritize analytical requirements
  • Apply and guide the use of AI/ML methods to aviation-focused problems, including data fusion, predictive analytics, and operational insight generation
  • Help define and evaluate high-value use cases involving transformer models, synthetic data generation, and other modern AI techniques
  • Collaborate with systems, software, and research teams to transition analytical concepts into scalable capabilities and decision-support products
  • Advise leadership on the feasibility, maturity, and operational relevance of AI/ML-enabled solutions
  • Translate mission needs into analytical roadmaps and actionable technical priorities
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in AI/ML, data science, software engineering, R&D, aerospace, systems engineering, or a related technical field
  • Demonstrated experience applying advanced analytics, AI/ML, or data science to complex operational challenges
  • Experience supporting aviation stakeholders, including familiarity with FAA organizations or related aviation mission environments
  • Experience with aviation data analysis and multi-source data fusion
  • Working knowledge of modern AI/ML approaches, including transformer-based methods
  • Ability to work across technical and non-technical stakeholder groups and drive alignment around analytical priorities
  • US Citizenship with ability to obtain/maintain an FAA Public Trust suitability
  • Must be local and able to commute to one of our following locations: Annapolis Junction, MD, Bowie, MD, or Herndon, VA.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with FAA lines of business, systems, or operational mission areas
  • Experience with synthetic data generation for analysis, testing, or model development
  • Experience with agentic AI systems, LLM-enabled workflows, or intelligent decision-support environments

Details

Target Salary Range: $146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
