Cloud Architect

Location: Herndon, VA

 

We are seeking a highly experienced Cloud Architect to lead the transformation of FAA BNATCS systems into a modern, information-centric NAS architecture. Based in Herndon, VA, this is a high-impact role where you will define cloud strategy, guide architectural evolution, and help modernize mission-critical systems that support the safety and efficiency of the nation’s airspace.

 

As a senior technical leader, you will drive cloud adoption across complex federal environments—ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, and compliant with federal standards. You will work at the intersection of enterprise architecture, systems engineering, cybersecurity, and operations to deliver actionable strategies that enable the next generation of NAS capabilities.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead cloud assessments and define forward-looking architecture strategies for NAS modernization
  • Provide technical leadership and governance across cloud adoption initiatives
  • Design and guide implementation of hybrid and multi-cloud solutions (AWS, Azure, GovCloud)
  • Develop strategies for application modernization and cloud migration
  • Ensure alignment with FAA mission objectives, operational requirements, and federal compliance frameworks
  • Collaborate across engineering, cybersecurity, and operations teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Drive adoption of secure-by-design principles, including Zero Trust Architecture
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear recommendations for executive stakeholders

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain/maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • 15+ years of experience in cloud architecture, enterprise IT, or systems engineering
  • Bachelor's degree is required (an additional 4 years of experience can be accepted in lieu of degree)
  • Deep expertise in hybrid and multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GovCloud) and cloud migration and application modernization strategies
  • Strong knowledge of federal cybersecurity frameworks (FedRAMP, RMF, NIST 800-53) and Zero Trust Architecture principles
  • Experience supporting large-scale federal or DoD programs
  • Background in mission-critical or safety-critical systems
  • ITIL certification and experience integrating cloud into IT service management (ITSM)
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional engineering teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with FAA or National Airspace System (NAS) programs
  • Familiarity with teal-time systems and low-latency architecture and edge computing in operational environments
  • Background in network architecture (SD-WAN, secure transport) and AI Ops and observability platforms

Details

Target Salary Range: $146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
