About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Cyber Software Engineer to support our cutsomer onsite in Annapolis Junction, MD. In this role, you will be instrumental in the design, development, integration, and security of a sophisticated IT infrastructure. You will work within a dynamic environment to engineer and secure enterprise-level applications, services and solutions, ensuring they are compliant with the highest standards of DoD security, including the Joint SAP Implementation Guide (JSIG) and Risk Management Framework (RMF).
 
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software and systems engineering, with specific expertise in securing and managing collaboration platforms in highly classified environments. You will be responsible for developing custom solutions, automating security and operational tasks, and guiding systems through the full engineering lifecycle, from design and prototyping to integration and continuous monitoring.
 
Key Responsibilities:
Secure Software & Engineer Systems:
  • Design, develop, and integrate secure software solutions, with a focus on enterprise applications.
  • Engineer and implement security controls, Zero Trust principles, and hardened system baselines (Windows, Linux) in accordance with JSIG and RMF requirements.
  • Develop custom scripts (PowerShell), applications, and automation workflows to streamline security, administration, and migration tasks.
RMF & Security Compliance:
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all assigned RMF and Assessment & Authorization (A&A) activities.
  • Develop and maintain RMF documentation, including System Security Plans (SSPs), and create artifacts to support security assessments.
  • Analyze and remediate DISA STIG compliance issues and conduct vulnerability management to ensure systems are prepared for Cyber Readiness Inspections (CCRI).
Infrastructure & Application Management:
  • Lead the engineering and migration efforts for enterprise platforms,
  • Design and deploy new infrastructure to support high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and scalability for critical enterprise services.
  • Provide Tier III support for complex technical issues, performing root cause analysis and developing long-term solutions.
Lifecycle & Integration Support:
  • Guide system development through the full lifecycle, from requirements analysis and design reviews (PDR/CDR) to integration, testing, and operational support.
  • Develop and document technical designs, system architecture, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, government stakeholders, and other engineers to ensure the technical integrity and security of all deliverables.
  • Implements, tests, and operates advanced software security techniques in compliance with technical reference architecture.
  • Performs on-going security testing and code review to improve software security.
  • Troubleshoots and debugs issues that arise.
  • Provides engineering designs for new software solutions to help mitigate security vulnerabilities.
  • Contributes to all levels of the architecture and maintains technical documentation.
  • Consults team members on secure coding practices.
  • Develops a familiarity with new tools and best practices.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires BS/BA with 8 years of experience, MS and 6 years; 4 additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a BS/BA degree
  • Clearance: Top Secret with SCI eligibility
  • Certifications: Must hold a DoD 8570 IAT Level II /8140 intermediate (e.g., Security+ CE) or higher certification (e.g., CASP+).
  • 5 years in a Software Engineering, or senior administration role within a DoD or Intelligence Community (IC) environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects involving server/application migrations and upgrades.
  • Proven expertise with the Risk Management Framework (RMF), including leading ATO efforts and developing security documentation.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong proficiency with Microsoft enterprise platforms or RHEL.
    • Advanced scripting and automation skills using PowerShell.
    • Experience with DISA STIGs, vulnerability remediation, and security hardening of enterprise systems.
    • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware vSphere), Active Directory, and Windows Server (2016/2019).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Certifications: DoD 8140, Professional level Microsoft certifications (e.g., SharePoint, Exchange), or cloud certifications.
  • Splunk front-end or back-end hands on experience
  • Development Experience: Hands-on experience with development languages/frameworks such as C#, .NET, JavaScript, or CSS for customizing enterprise applications.
  • Advanced Security: Experience implementing email security protocols (DMARC, SPF, DKIM) or designing complex, restricted-access mechanisms in SharePoint.

Target Salary Range: $135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
