About The Role

Peraton is seeking an experienced Network Operations Center (NOC) Specialist to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals.

Peraton delivers mission-critical telecommunications and network operations solutions that sustain the infrastructure underpinning some of the most operationally demanding environments in the federal government. As a Network Operations Center (NOC) Specialist on the CBOSS 2.0 program, you will serve as a core technical contributor within a 24/7 enterprise network operations environment, applying specialized expertise in network analysis, incident investigation, and performance optimization to protect the availability and integrity of critical telecommunications infrastructure. In this role, you will operate with professional autonomy to detect, analyze, and resolve complex network events, contribute to continuous improvement of operational practices, and support the NOC Manager in advancing the technical and operational maturity of the team, making a direct and measurable impact on the reliability of infrastructure that supports one of the most critical civilian agencies in the U.S. government.

This position is located onsite in Oak Ridge, TN.

Day to Day Roles and Responsibilities:

Network Monitoring & Analysis

  • Analyze real-time telemetry data, network performance metrics, and event streams across large-scale enterprise telecommunications environments, applying expert technical judgment to distinguish anomalous behavior from baseline conditions, identify emerging risk patterns, and determine appropriate response actions independently.
  • Evaluate and interpret alerts and performance data from network monitoring and management platforms, applying analytical rigor to assess the scope, severity, and potential impact of detected conditions across routing, switching, wireless, and WAN infrastructure before escalating or acting.
  • Assess the health and performance of end-to-end network service chains, identifying degradation indicators and proactively developing and implementing remediation strategies that address root causes rather than symptoms, in coordination with the NOC Manager and engineering teams as warranted.

Incident Response & Troubleshooting

  • Lead the technical triage and resolution of network incidents within defined scope, independently diagnosing complex, non-routine failures across enterprise LAN/WAN environments and developing tailored remediation approaches that minimize operational impact to mission-critical DOE systems.
  • Conduct structured root cause analysis following incident resolution, applying systematic analytical methodology to identify contributing factors, evaluate the effectiveness of remediation actions, and produce findings that inform corrective actions and prevent recurrence.
  • Support major incident response operations directed by the NOC Manager, contributing independent technical analysis, real-time network insight, and subject matter expertise to triage, stakeholder communications, and post-incident review processes.

Change Management & Maintenance Support

  • Evaluate and execute approved network changes and planned maintenance activities, applying independent technical judgment to assess pre and post-change network behavior, validate that changes achieve intended outcomes, and identify and escalate deviations that require engineering intervention.
  • Support the development and validation of rollback procedures and contingency plans for production changes, contributing technical expertise to risk assessments and ensuring that safeguards are in place to protect service availability during maintenance windows.

Performance Reporting & Compliance

  • Develop and maintain authoritative documentation of network incidents, resolutions, configuration changes, and provisioning activities, producing records of sufficient quality and completeness to support audit readiness and demonstrate alignment with applicable compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO) and DOE organizational requirements.
  • Analyze operational performance data against defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), identifying trends and anomalies and presenting findings and improvement recommendations to the NOC Manager in support of program performance goals.
  • Independently assess network operations for alignment with organizational security policies and regulatory frameworks, identifying compliance gaps and contributing to the development of remediation strategies in coordination with the NOC Manager and security personnel.

Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate existing operational processes and monitoring methodologies, applying professional judgment to identify inefficiencies and develop recommended improvements that contribute to the operational maturity and effectiveness of the NOC team.
  • Contribute technical expertise and field-level operational insight to the development and refinement of NOC runbooks, knowledge base articles, and standard methodologies, ensuring documentation reflects current best practices and accurately represents the enterprise environment.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and 8 years of experience or a Masters degree and 6 years of experience or an Associates degree and 10 year of experience or a High School diploma/equivalent and 12 years of experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
  • Demonstrated expertise in network operations within large-scale enterprise or federal telecommunications environments, with proven ability to independently analyze complex network conditions and drive incident resolution with minimal supervision.
  • Strong working knowledge of networking technologies (e.g., routing/switching, MPLS, SD-WAN, VoIP, wireless systems) and the ability to apply that knowledge to diagnose and resolve non-routine operational issues across multi-vendor infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with network monitoring and management platforms, including the ability to interpret performance data, identify anomalous patterns, and translate findings into technically sound operational decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience operating within federal IT environments, including working knowledge of government compliance frameworks and the security and operational requirements of DOE or comparable national security programs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, audit-quality documentation and engage effectively with technical peers, the NOC Manager, and government stakeholders.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher (e.g., CCNP).
  • CompTIA Network+ or Security+.
  • ITIL Foundation or higher.
