About The Role

The Peraton Health, State and Local Sector is seeking Software Developer, Advisor to join us in supporting and maintaining the Medicare Fee For Service claims processing system. In this role, you will serve as a principal technical contributor on an Agile team providing maintenance and operations support for the Medicare Durable Medical Equipment (DME) contract. 

 

As a Software Development, Advisor, you will help plan, direct, and coordinate software development across multiple functional areas of the DME systemThis role will operate in a highly structured, rigorous development environment, spanning high-level technical design, hands-on coding, unit testing, and defect resolution. At this level, the candidate is expected to exercise a high degree of independent judgement, serve as a technical authority within the team, and provide leadership and mentorship to developers at all levels. 

 

The Advisor will design, develop, and enhance core software programs while adhering to strict coding standards. Quality is vital to this mission, this role must build and execute your own unit test plans, test cases, and test data. Additionally, the Advisor role is responsible for installing changes into internal testing regions, troubleshooting and resolving defects, and keeping technical documentation current. 

 

Responsibilities:    

  • Designs, codesunit tests, and debugs complex enhancements and fixes to the Medicare health claims processing system while adhering to strict coding standards. 
  • Leads technical design sessions and drives implementation of complex software components. 
  • Applies deep technical expertise to deliver reliable, high-quality maintenance and development solutions. 
  • Integrate technical knowledge and business understanding to implement end-user and enterprise solutions of high complexity with minimal direction.  
  • Serves as a principal technical contributor on a persistent Agile development team supporting maintenance and operations.  
  • Demonstrates advanced, practical mastery of mainframe development concepts, practices, and engineering techniques. 
  • Consult with team members, cross-functional organizations, clients, and vendors to resolve complex technical issues. 
  • Serves as a mentor and technical resource to developers, actively supporting team growth and knowledge transfer. 
  • Represents the team during client-facing technical discussions, communicating complex issues clearly and effectively.  
  • Provide reliable time and resources estimates for your assigned tasks and projects to ensure sprint predictability. 
  • Troubleshoot problems independently and deliver effective, well-reasoned solutions.  
  • Contributes to the strategic technical direction of the development team and assists in developing solutions to complex business and technology problems. 
Qualifications
  • Education & Experience: BS/BA degree with 8+ years of relevant experience; or Master's degree with 6 years of relevant experience; or HS diploma with 12 years of relevant experience. 
  • 8+ years of mainframe development experience in production or maintenance environment. 
  • Advanced proficiency with mainframe technologies such as COBOL, JCL, CICS, TSO and VSAM. 
  • Knowledge of health care claims processing, particularly Medicare Fee For Service. 
  • Ability to perform well in a highly rigorous, structured development environment. 
  • Demonstrated experience as a senior or principal software developer in a mainframe environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to determine and decompose business and technical requirements. 
  • Application lifecycle methodology experience, specifically Agile/SCRUM. 
  • Strong communication skills and technical writing ability, including client-facing communication 
  • Ability to develop application project solutions and provide accurate estimates. 
  • Experience with Medicare Part A, Medicare Part B, DME or Medicare Common Working File (CWF) specific processing systems. 
  • Experience working with or in support of CMS programs or contracts.  
  • Experience with DevOps/DevSecOps tools and frameworks through plan, define, build, test, release and deploy processes. 
  • SAFe experience and/or certification. 
  • Must be able to achieve and maintain a Public Trust clearance. 
  • Must be a US Citizen. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with Assembler language in a mainframe environment. 
  • Familiarity with development and collaboration tools: GitHub, Jira, Confluence, Eclipse (IDz/RDz). 
  • Exposure to modern languages such as Java or Python.  
Details

Target Salary Range: $135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
