About The Role

The Mainframe Developer will provide expertise and direction in the development and/or modification of computer-based scientific, technical, and business software systems. You will use expertise to design develop, code, test, and debug software. You will need extensive direct experience that demonstrates the ability to develop and support large mainframe COBOL applications inclduing being able to design, develop, test and customize applications to meet a series of pre-defined requirements using IDMS COBOL programming language utilizing DB2 databases. This experience must show high technical competency as well as a willingness to take the initiative and to innovate. The customer is located in Kansas City, KS but accepting resumes for remote/telework personnel support.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Technical implementation expertise in the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of robust enterprise mainframe applications using COBOL, TSO, JCL, Endevor, CICS, IDMS ADS/ADSO, IDMS Utilities, and IDMS DC online features using IDMS and DB2 database products.
  • Able to write, compile and execute IDMS/ADSO COBOL programs
  • Working knowledge of Agile practices such as Scrum and Test Driven Development
  • Designs, develops, enhances, tests, debugs, and implements software ensuring compliance with established development principles, standards, and processes
  • Troubleshoots production problems and provides support and resolutions related to software applications
  • Considers and includes performance, scalability, usability, and security provisions as necessary in all tasks
  • Extensive experience collaborating with end users to define new systems requirements
  • Works well in a team environment, and has the ability to mentor less experienced developers
Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • 2 years experience with BS/BA; 6 years experience with a high school
  • Experience with writing, compiling and executing IDMS/ADSO COBOL programs
  • Able to provide technical implementation expertise in the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of robust enterprise mainframe applications using COBOL
  • Must be a US Citizen or a Green Card Holder
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 plus years of  COBOL, VSAM, JCL and DB2 experience
  • Current or prior U.S. Department of Agriculture experience
  • Cloud Practitioner certification or 3 years cloud experience
  • Java and Web development 
  • Working knowledge of Agile practices such as Scrum and Test Driven Development

Target Salary Range: $51,000 - $82,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
