About The Role

Peraton is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our team of highly skilled and diverse professionals supporting a Department of Energy (DOE) program in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The selected candidate will support the development, integration, modernization, and sustainment of mission critical software systems.

 

The ideal candidate will have strong software engineering experience, with particular expertise in Data Distribution Service (DDS) and experience with RTI Connext DDS or DDS Connect. This position will play a key role in evaluating and modernizing an existing DDS based system and supporting its migration or conversion to a new DOE software architecture.

 

Work Location: On-Site Albuquerque, New Mexico

 

Day to Day Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts research in design, development, testing and utilization of electronic data processing software.
  • Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
  • Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
  • Ensures software standards are met.
  • Analyzes user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
  • Confers with systems analysts, engineers, programmers, and others to design system and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces.
  • Designs, develops, and modifies software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of design.
  • Coordinates software system installations and monitors equipment functioning to ensure specifications are met.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience or an Associates degree and 7 years of experience or a High School diploma/equivalent and 9 years of experience. 
  • Must possess an active DOE Q Clearance (equivalent to a DOD Top Secret clearance) and be eligible for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Programs (SAP).
  • Expert level experience with Data Distribution Service (DDS), including RTI Connext DDS, DDS Connect, or comparable DDS middleware.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing, troubleshooting, and maintaining software systems that utilize DDS for real time data communication and distributed systems.
  • Experience analyzing and documenting an existing DDS based system, including software architecture, data flows, interfaces, dependencies, and system integrations.
  • Demonstrated experience modernizing, migrating, converting, or rearchitecting legacy DDS based applications or systems to a new software platform or architecture.
  • Ability to translate existing DDS functionality, data exchanges, and system requirements into a modernized target architecture and implementation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-5 years development in modern C++ (Versions 11, 14)
  • Experience with RTI (Real Time Innovations) Connext DDS (Data Distribution Standard) and eProsima Fast DDS
  • Development and delivery of applications to Windows and Linux desktops
  • Experience with Linux, particularly RHEL and Ubuntu, a bonus
  • Strong organizational skills and experience with agile methodologies like Scrum or Kanban
  • Experience with JavaScript, Node, Express, Electron, ZeroMQ, C#, MS SQL Server, XML, SQLite, MSBuild, CMake, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, Conan, Data Distribution Service (DDS) messaging
  • Experience with automation and CI/CD, particularly Gitlab CI (GitFlow)
  • Experience writing unit tests that integrate into the CI pipeline
  • Ability to work effectively on both small and large development teams (two-to-eight members)
  • Good communication and documentation skills

Target Salary Range: $104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
