About The Role

Project Manager – Surveillance & Radar Systems

Shape the Future of Air Traffic Management with Peraton

Join Peraton in advancing the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through the FAA’s Brand New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS) contract. As a trusted FAA partner, Peraton delivers the systems and services that keep our nation’s skies safe, connected, and operating efficiently.

We’re seeking a technically focused Project Manager – Surveillance & Radar Systems to lead critical initiatives supporting FAA surveillance capabilities and NAS infrastructure. This role is ideal for a strong project leader with experience working with FAA Technical Operations, Airway Transportation Systems Specialists (ATSS), and mission-critical aviation systems.

Work Location

  • Position allows for 100% telework (remote)
  • Preference would be someone local to Herndon, VA so they could attend meetings, but this is not required. What's most important is the FAA experience.

In This Role, You Will

  • Lead planning and execution of projects supporting surveillance, radar, and related NAS systems.
  • Manage priorities, resources, schedules, risks, and deliverables to achieve program objectives.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams and drive collaboration, accountability, and mission success.
  • Partner with FAA Technical Operations, ATSS personnel, engineers, system vendors, and program leadership.
  • Manage stakeholder communication, requirements, action items, and project status.
  • Identify risks and technical challenges and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Develop project roadmaps, schedules, reports, and other program documentation.
  • Support modernization, system integration, change management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure work meets FAA, technical, quality, schedule, and mission requirements.

Preferred Technical Experience

The ideal candidate brings experience with FAA Technical Operations (AJW) and the technical workforce responsible for maintaining the NAS.

Preferred experience includes:

  • FAA ATSS experience or direct experience supporting ATSS personnel.
  • Knowledge of surveillance and radar systems, including radar and ADS-B.
  • Familiarity with FAA communications, navigation, automation, power, and environmental systems.
  • Understanding of FAA technical training, facility-level certifications, and system-specific qualifications.
  • Experience working within a mission-critical, highly regulated FAA or aviation environment.

ATSS personnel are the technical specialists responsible for maintaining and sustaining critical NAS systems. Their qualifications are based on FAA technical training, facility certifications, and system-specific proficiency rather than external licenses such as an A&P.

Why This Role Matters

The NAS depends on highly reliable surveillance, radar, communications, navigation, and automation systems. As a Project Manager, you will lead the people and projects responsible for sustaining and modernizing these critical capabilities.

At Peraton, you won’t just manage projects—you’ll help shape the future of air traffic management.

Qualifications

Position Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience, Master’s with 6 years, Associate’s with 10 years, or HS diploma/equivalent with 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Project leadership experience supporting surveillance, radar, or related NAS systems.
  • FAA Technical Operations (TechOps) experience required, including direct experience with TSOG and/or ATSS supporting mission-critical NAS infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with airport surveillance/radar systems, including system architecture, hardware/software, interfaces, maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
  • Experience coordinating installation, modification, system acceptance, and field deployment activities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working across technical teams and senior leadership.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, mitigate risks, and deliver results in complex, mission-critical environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • FAA TechOps, TSOG, or ATSS experience; SMR/ASDE experience highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting FAA NextGen, NAS modernization, or federal aviation programs.
  • Experience managing federal modernization or large-scale enterprise programs.
  • Familiarity with FAA standards, facility directives, and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of risk management, budgeting, and program governance.
