About The Role

As the Network Architect, you will provide technical and management leadership for all equipment and information support functions across the Task Order.

Your responsibilities include: 

  • Provides strategic technical leadership for defining the architectural vision and strategy for all network engineering support. Leads activities to transition to modernize engineering practices, digital engineering frameworks, and emerging mission systems technologies 
  • Serves as the principal authority on the architectural design of Department of Energy (DOE), guiding all modernization and integration efforts. 
  • Directs and controls architectural activities, having overall responsibility for methods and strategic design ensuring advanced network engineering solutions meet stringent technical requirements and mission objectives. 
  • Drives continuous architectural improvement, technological adaptability, and mission-focused network engineering across all DOE networks. 
  • Architect enterprise network solutions that support modernization, automation, and mission readiness 
  • Design and evolve network capabilities to reduce technical debt and improve operational agility 
  • Lead transformation initiatives from concept through sustainment 
  • Lead network assessments, gap analysis, and integration planning across distributed environments 
  • Provides expert level analysis and is responsible for the design and development of DOE networks.
  • Plans, designs, evaluates, and makes source selection recommendations, to facilitate upgrades across the network enterprise.
  • Plans network layouts and analyzes network topologies, traffic and capacity requirements, and supports the acquisition of networking hardware and software.
  • Experience developing technical business case for development activities
  • Ability to develop test plans and conduct testing of architectures as required
  • Serve as principal authority for enterprise network architecture
  • Develop authoritative architectural artifacts
  • Review and approve engineering changes, transition strategies, and deployment plans to preserve architectural integrity and lifecycle sustainability.
  • Lead architectural governance, standards enforcement, and cross‑domain integration efforts to enable enterprise modernization and expansion.
Qualifications

Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 12 years with High School Diploma. 

Required experience and skills:

  • Previous experience as a Network Architect or similar role
  • Network architecture, engineering, or systems integration experience with at least 7 years in senior enterprise network architecture roles.
  • Deep expertise in routing/switching, WAN design, datacenter/virtualization architectures, and DNS/proxy.
  • Experience architecting enterprise network solutions in support of large-scale modernization and automation efforts 
  • Experience with Software Defined Networking
  • Background in network design, transformation planning, and cross-domain integration 
  • Ability to operate in dynamic conditions and apply standardized recovery procedures across distributed environments

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.   
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.   

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.  

Details

Target Salary Range: $112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
