About The Role

Peraton is seeking to hire an experienced CAT III FARSI Linguist & Cultural Advisor.

 

Location: Camp Xiphos, Jordan (Secure U.S. Military Compound).

 

Clearance Required: Active TS/SCI.

 

Assignment: Unaccompanied, one-year (extendable).

 

Shift Work: May be required.

 

Role & Responsibilities Overview:

 

Peraton is seeking a TS/SCI cleared CAT III FARSI Linguist and Cultural Advisor to provide expert language, cultural, and analytical support. As a trusted government contractor, Peraton hires and retains the most qualified experts and holds employees to the highest standards of excellence.

Linguists may be required to complete annual evaluations and retesting to determine eligibility for service extensions.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) on Afghanistan tribes, religious and ethnic groups, and influential moderate voices.
  • Support key leader engagement events conducted in Afghanistan with relevant partners (remotely).
  • Translate, interpret, and analyze oral and written materials (classified reports, data, briefings, conversations).
  • Deliver accurate written and oral translations that preserve the meaning and intent of the original text.
  • Provide assessments, transcription, translation, interpretation, cultural advisement, and media analysis to ensure actionable intelligence products.
  • Apply congruity judgment: read and comprehend source languages, write clearly, and select equivalent expressions that fully convey intended meaning.
  • Demonstrate command of both FARSI and English in speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Ensure cultural context, specialized terminology, and subject matter accuracy in translations and interpretations.
  • Research in native languages and prepare comprehensive command-level information papers.
  • Possess detailed knowledge of the operating environment, including Joint and Combined doctrine and host nation (Afghanistan) laws/regulations.
  • Participate in USCENTCOM, interagency, and coalition working groups as an operational cultural advisor.
  • Be prepared to work extended work weeks as mission requirements dictate.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, International Studies, Anthropology, Communication or a related field from an accredited and reputable institution and 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree and 6 years.  
    • An additional 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a formal bachelor’s degree.
  • Must have demonstrated expertise and be recognized as a Subject Matter Expert in understanding Afghanistan tribes, religious, ethnic groups and influential moderate voices and ethnic landscape in its effort to counter extremist activities.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years prior experience working in support of U.S. Armed Forces or U.S. government agencies.
  • Must have a minimum of 4/4/4/ scores or higher in testing scores both in English and a 5/5/5/ in FARSI Dialect.
  • Must be willing to deploy for periods of 180 - 365 days in support of U.S. Forces (Duty Location Camp Xiphos, Jordan).
  • Must be able to demonstrate the following abilities:
    • Objective, Unbiased, & Logical cultural advisement.
    • Must be able to follow orderly and sequential systematic procedures and guidelines.
    • Provide foreign language interpretation, translation, transliteration & transcription, document exploitation (DOCEX) services
    • Provide written and verbal translation of various types of media from target language to source language while maintaining congruity in judgment.
    • Must possess excellent listening skills with ability to pay attention to minute details.
    • Must be comfortable providing presentations and working with small and large groups.
    • In depth cultural understanding of customs, symbolism, mannerisms, traditions of various ethnic groups residing throughout the CENTCOM AOR
    • Demonstrated capability to work with Microsoft Office applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • U.S. citizenship required. 
  • Must have a current U.S. Passport with at least 1 Year remaining before expiration. 
  • Able to meet requirements of a Jordanian Visa.
  • Active DoD Top Secret SCI eligible security clearance. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Information Operations/ MISO units in Afghanistan.
  • Language ability in another required language; DARI, PASHTO, or ARABIC at the same levels.
  • Native Afghanistan Heritage.

 

SCA / Union / Intern Rate or Range

Details

Target Salary Range: $112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
