About The Role

Peraton is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator & Mission Support Engineer in Greenbelt, MD in support of our National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) customer Operations Center. This role will be a member of a fast-acting team of local System Admins, Systems Engineers, and Hardware Engineers supporting the Near Space Network’s (NSN) Near Space Operations Control Center (NSOCC). This exciting opportunity involves regular customer interactions in support of launch-related activities as well as self-motivated systems administration and hardware engineering.

 

What you'll do - this position will be responsible for the following:

  • Work closely with NASA civil servants & leadership as well as contractors throughout the mission support lifecycle in support of an Operations Center that is operationally available 24/7/365.
  • Directly maintain, and engineer creative solutions for, user available consoles that include varied IT equipment/systems.
  • Provide desk side console support for a varied user base where time sensitive solutions are required. This may include on console voice communication with other supporting elements across the globe.
  • Maintain mission-critical equipment including varied server rack hardware (switches, routers, firewalls, KVM’s, etc.) & cabling (fiber, coax, copper, etc.) and COTS IT products (monitors, peripherals, etc.) in an operations’ center environment.
  • The position will require regular work within a low light-level operation center with raised floors.
  • Build and secure systems within government/contractor mixed environment.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Education/Experience: degree in computer science, information technology, mathematics or a related technical field and relevant experience required as follows: 5 years' experience with BS/BA; 9 years' experience with AA/AS degree.
  • Security clearance - this position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance and to maintain the clearance thereafter. Must be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
  • 4+ years of experience supporting a varied customer/client/user base. Live operations environment and/or time sensitive resolution experience a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience with operations, maintenance, and sustainment of network data processing systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of various IT hardware, software, cloud services, and networking concepts.
  • Ability to assess, troubleshoot, repair, and accurately report incidents quickly, concisely, and consistently.
  • Strong verbal skills that include the ability to speak across telecommunication systems (TEAMS, landline phone, & secured communication voice loops) clearly and concisely.
  • Skilled in the use of desktop computers (Windows) and use of Microsoft applications (Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Experience working with and providing administration services for Windows-based operating systems.
  • Experience in system building and testing including Client Workstations, Servers, and A/V equipment.
  • Experience with hardware relocation (including cable terminating and testing), teardown, and user environment standup.
  • Experience in varied forms of media and data delivery.
  • Ability to communicate complex information effectively to varied personnel/guests, thus enhancing understanding and engagement of our unique environment.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the NSN, NSOCC, and its customers a plus.
  • Detail oriented note taking habits with experience in inventory tracking/control/management a plus.
  • Strong written communication skills with attention to detail and ability to accurately express critical issues and resolutions across varied engineering teams.
  • Experience communicating with leadership personnel (in any role) and high-ranking civil servant personnel.
  • Experience in designing, building, and integrating various IT related components in a mixed environment.
  • Experience in various critical roles within customer operation and/or test environments.
  • Experience with NASA campuses/facilities.
  • Advanced Microsoft office experience including the creation of, and on the fly editing of, PowerPoint presentations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate in a fast-moving operations setting with both civil servants and contractor personnel.
  • Ability to express yourself clearly, concisely, and confidently through written and oral means.
  • Experience with Active Directory, BitLocker, CloneZilla, SentinelOne, NASA RISCS, BigFix, and PuTTY.
  • Experience with Ansys STK and VeCOAX channel creators.
  • Experience with Ubuntu, RedHat, and BMC Remedy.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision in an ever-changing workspace with varied users.
  • Ability to understand when mistakes are made that they need to be brought to light prior to having a negative impact on our environment and/or customer.
  • Experience working within a ticketing system (e.g. ServiceNow, Maximo, etc.).
Details

Target Salary Range: $86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
