About The Role

Peraton is seeking a Software Engineer. The Software Engineer, Lead Associate will play a critical role in designing, building, and implementing components of a modernized application ecosystem. This includes refactoring legacy systems, developing new services, and contributing to the modernization framework underpinning two existing business applications.

 

This position will support the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) Account as a Java Application Software Developer. These developers collaborate with business analysts, testers, and stakeholders to implement features, resolve issues, and optimize system performance. Responsibilities include coding, debugging, testing, and deploying software, with a focus on data quality, interoperability, and compliance with security and regulatory requirements. 

 

This role involves researching, designing, and deploying AI-driven tools and methodologies to enhance automation, efficiency, and accuracy in areas such as code analysis, testing, security, and deployment pipelines.

 

Responsibilities include collaborating with development and Dev Sec Ops teams to understand current workflows, identifying areas where AI can add value, and building or integrating AI solutions to streamline processes like vulnerability detection, performance optimization, or automated testing.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance Java-based applications and services aligned with modernization objectives.
  • Participate in designing APIs, service integrations, and modular components.
  • Refactor and modernize legacy system logic into modern Java frameworks.
  • Contribute to architecture discussions related to cloud deployment, microservices, and modularization.
  • Support implementation of DevOps practices (CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, etc.).
  • Develop unit, integration, and regression tests to ensure code quality.
  • Mentor junior developers and perform peer code reviews.
  • Assist in defining patterns, best practices, and modernization standards.
Qualifications
  • 5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD, 9 years of experience with HS diploma 
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must have active Public Trust clearance. 
  • Must have Security+ certification
  • Experience with AI development
  • Cloud development experience.
  • Must have hands-on experience developing Java EE applications on WebLogic Application Server
  • Strong knowledge of Relational Database Management Systems
  • Strong experience with Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and service-oriented architectures.
  • Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases; familiarity with ORM tools.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated build tools.
  • Ability to analyze legacy codebases and recommend modernization approaches.
  • Experience working in Agile teams.

Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with microservices architecture or distributed systems.
    • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, OCI).
    • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
    • Experience with message brokers or API gateways.
Details

Target Salary Range: $86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
